Another internet source of intrigue has now become a source of controversy.

Two 12-year-old girls have reportedly stabbed a classmate 19 times in order to summon the legend known as the Slender Man. One of the motives for the incident, according to one of the suspects, was to gain access to the figure’s mansion; a co-perpetrator also mentioned that she felt that the Slender Man could read her mind.

The victim managed to survive the attack and is in critical condition at a local hospital.

The story of a Slender Man has a multitude of origins and has been told in various forms. The Slender Man is most popularly known for appearing in pictures, myths and has also been partially brought to life in the form of a popular online video game.

Creepypasta wiki, the website credited with introducing the Slender Man myth, released a statement regarding the incident. The statement shown on the website reads, “Something like this was bound to happen, considering the size of the Creepypasta community. All it takes is one person to do something insane and radical in the name of someone or something. There is a line of between fiction and reality, and it is up to you to realize where the line is. We are a literature site, not a crazy satanic cult.”
