Thanksgiving is remembered as a time where friends and family come together and express gratitude for what they have. Of course, one of the many things most people are thankful for around this time of year is the massive quantities of food they are about to consume. Now, we all know about the traditional Thanksgiving platters such as mashed potatoes, stuffing and of course, the turkey. But what about the platters that people go above and beyond to create? We will now break down five of the most outrageous, exorbitant and all-around epic meals that have been concocted for this holiday.
1. Turkey on a bun?
If you’re a fan of the traditional Thanksgiving meals, but don’t like the hassle of a heavy plate, a San Francisco eatery may have just what you need. Zog’s Dogs, a bay area restaurant offers a “Thanksgiving hot dog” of sorts; turkey sausage smothered in mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce inside a sesame seed bun. This is the ideal to-go meal to share around the dinner table.
2. A tale of two holidays
For the first and last time in our lifetime, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah have overlapped each other. To commemorate such an event, Zucker Bakery, a bakery located in Manhattan, NY, has created what is being known as the “Thanksgivukkah Doughnut.” This creation has brought turkey and gravy together inside fried dough covered in powdered sugar. This may possibly be the ideal combination of sweet and salty.
3. 12 layers of cheesy, meaty goodness
Often imitated, never duplicated, the Turducken Cheese Ball is a massive stacking of different kinds of cheeses and meats to create an enormous ball of amazing. The ball has 12 layers of cheese and meats, such as cream cheese and Emmentaler cheese and Spanish chorizo, all wrapped around each other.
4. Thanksgiving with a “south of the border” flair
Arizona eatery Tuscon Tamale Company has created a set of Thanksgiving tamales, set to please any palaver. These tamales contain turkey, cranberries, carrots and onions all covered in gravy and cooked inside a special dough known as a “masa” and served on a corn husk. For dessert lovers, a pumpkin spice tamal is also available.
5. The Turbaconepicentipede
That’s right, you read correctly. The popular YouTube show Epic Meal Time created a Thanksgiving dish so daring and magnanimous, you may possibly get full just from looking at it. This dish of the gods includes 10 individual pigs stuffed with bacon grease stuffing and a turkey stuffed with a quail, cornish game hen, chicken and a duck with the turkey wrapped in bacon. And as if that wasn’t enough, all 10 pigs were sewn together and garnished with Baconator hamburgers. Needless to say, you’ll have leftovers for months with this dish.
