A shooting occurred outside of a Kohl’s department store parking lot in Romeoville, IL on Thursday as police were attempting to pursue a reported shoplifter.
Police received a call from the store’s employees around 10 p.m. reporting suspicious activity. When police arrived, one man was seen running out of the store and jumping into his car. The suspect, 52-year-old Charles Hinch, was reported to have been at the site with two other individuals, Robert Russell, 51, and 28-year-old Gerald Chamberlain.
Hinch attempted to drive off the property, dragging a police officer along as his arm was stuck between the car’s door and the driver, but was shot in the shoulder and came to a stop. Hinch was then apprehended along with the passenger in the car. The third suspect was arrested inside the store.
Hinch is expected to survive the shooting, as is the officer who was dragged in the car.
